The Courage to Take Control: Women, Wellness, and the Third Act of Life

There comes a moment in every woman’s life—let’s call it “a certain age”—when we realize our bodies are shifting in ways we never signed up for. The sleep struggles, the stubborn weight gain, the joint pain that wasn’t there yesterday, and the dreaded brain fog that makes you feel like you’re living in a perpetual haze. And yet, too often, when we turn to traditional medicine for answers, we are met with a patronizing shrug and a dismissive, “Yes, you are at that age, I’m afraid.”

AND…?

As women, we are conditioned to accept, to endure, to “deal with it.” But I refuse to believe that suffering is the natural state of a woman in her third act of life. I refuse to accept that vibrant, thriving health is behind me. And I am not alone. Women like Dr. Arianna Sholes-Douglas remind us that there is no reason we can’t stay juicy at every stage of life.

Luckily, I found a physician who shares this perspective. My female primary care doctor—the one I deliberately chose because she listens and treats me as a co-director in my health and healing—had also grown frustrated by the lack of answers available for countless women like me. So what did she do? She took it upon herself to get educated. In her own time, she became Menopause Certified. She attended conferences, including a recent one at Harvard, diving deep into the real science of women’s health and hormones.

After my own deep dive into specialized testing, biomarkers, and consultations with experts in women’s hormone health, I brought my findings to her. And instead of dismissing me, she leaned in. She listened. And then she said something remarkable: “I’m going to be a cowboy.”

In other words, she was willing to go off-script. To step beyond the rigid boundaries of traditional Western medicine, Big Pharma, and insurance-approved checklists. To embrace the emerging science that so many trailblazing women—Dr. Arianna Sholes-Douglas, Dr. Mary Claire Haver, Dr. Mindy Pelz, and even Oprah—are championing. She chose to be bold, to stand in her power, and to prioritize integrity and patient care over outdated medical dogma.

THIS is what empowerment looks like. This is what it means to advocate for yourself, to demand more, and to find courageous solutions that align with truth and well-being.

To every woman out there who has ever been told to “just deal with it”: You do not have to accept suffering as your new normal. You do not have to settle for dismissive answers. And you are not alone in your search for real, sustainable solutions. There is a movement of women—patients, doctors, researchers, and advocates—pushing the boundaries, asking the tough questions, and reclaiming what it means to truly thrive in this stage of life.

So, to my doctor, and to all the women standing up, speaking out, and rewriting the narrative around women’s health: Thank you. You are the reason we are no longer settling.

Because the third act of life is not the end of the story. It’s the beginning of a new, empowered chapter.

And so I ask you: Are you ready to take control of your health? Are you ready to stop settling and start demanding the care you deserve?

If this resonates with you, let’s talk. Book a Complementary Empowerment Breakthrough Session with me, and together, we’ll explore ways you can step into this next chapter of life with clarity, confidence, and control.

Because the third act of life isn’t the end of the story—it’s the beginning of a bold, empowered new chapter.
