Breaking Free: The Secret Strength in Letting Go of Being ‘Strong and Independent

Have you noticed that the women who show up for everything, say yes to everything and are “women you can count on” are also women who identify as being strong and independent?

They weren’t born this way… they were created- forged under pressure and in fire like a diamond.

They “had to be” strong and independent as it was a soul survival adaptation to their life’s challenges.

Do you identify as a strong and independent woman?

The pros of being this type of woman are that you are capable of doing and handling a lot, and you are reliable, dependable, and resilient. You get back up when life knocks you down.

But… the flip side of being strong and independent is you have a hard time letting others help you, or trusting and letting them into your inner world. You like things done a certain way and you are often overextended.  If we’re being honest, you sometimes resent having to be strong and independent all the time. You would like to be taken care of, nurtured deep down inside.

Being a strong and independent woman, I learned that allowing others to help me made me stronger and helped me show up for the things that were important to me.  But this was also a very vulnerable and uncomfortable thing for me… allowing, let alone asking for help.

My kids getting sick and being in the hospital was my time of letting go of being the strong independent woman all of the time.  It was when I let down my walls and allowed my community to help me and my family.  It was when I reached out to friends and family and allowed then to support me, be there for me and my boys.  This created a deeper connection with them and helped me not feel so alone.

Am I still a strong and independent woman?

Absolutely, but I don’t HAVE to be all the time anymore.  It is a choice. I learned to set boundaries with what I say yes to, what I say no to and what I delegate or ask for help with so I can preserve my time, energy and sanity.  This helps me show up my best self as well as feel connected and supported by others in my life.

This is what I have taught my strong and independent female clients to do, which has helped them step more fully into their power while finding more peace, joy, balance and connection in their lives.

I can teach you too!
