And how to finally reclaim it—on your terms.
You’re doing everything right.
You’re crushing goals, showing up for your people, checking all the boxes.
From the outside, it looks like you’ve got it all handled.
So… why do you still feel behind?
Disconnected?
Frustrated that it’s still not enough?
Here’s a truth I had to face—and one I help so many of my clients work through:
It might not be you.
It might be the invisible, unrealistic expectations you’ve been taught to carry.
My Holiday Wake-Up Call
This year’s July 4th weekend was packed.
I had a full social calendar—gatherings from Thursday through Sunday, including two parties in one night.
I had it all mapped out.
But here’s what actually happened…
We stayed longer than expected at the first party.
When it was time to head to the second, my husband looked at me and said,
“Babe, I’m done.”
And just like that, my plan was unraveling.
At first, I felt disappointed. Irritated, even.
Wasn’t this supposed to be a fun, fulfilling holiday? Weren’t we supposed to be doing it all?
But then I paused.
Checked in with myself.
And what came up surprised me.
I didn’t want to go to the second party for joy or connection.
I wanted to go because of FOMO—fear of missing out, fear of letting someone down, fear of breaking the “plan.”
So instead, we pivoted.
We grabbed a bite, and we ended up listening to a 60s band playing by the waterfront.
We sat outside. We laughed.
We enjoyed each other—present, not pressured.

What Expectations Are You Carrying That You Didn’t Choose?
This moment reminded me how often we—especially as strong, success-driven women—live under a quiet but constant pressure to meet invisible expectations.
The pressure to be the fun one.
The perfect one.
The strong one.
The one who gets it all right.
But where do those expectations really come from?
- Childhood messages we internalized
- Cultural “rules” about how women should be
- Social media comparison traps
- The fear of being seen as “less than”
They’re so sneaky, we barely notice them until our body is exhausted, our joy is missing, or our relationships feel disconnected.
The Cost of Unrealistic Expectations.
Unrealistic expectations don’t just leave us disappointed.
They cost us:
- Our presence
- Our peace
- Our connection with others—and ourselves
- Our ability to enjoy the actual moment we’re in
From Expectation to Intention.
Here’s a powerful shift:
Instead of chasing expectations, root yourself in intentions.
Before saying yes, posting, RSVPing, or making a decision, ask:
- Am I doing this from joy or obligation?
- Is this rooted in what I want or what I think I should want?
- Am I choosing this from a soul-aligned place—or to control the outcome?

You Get to Rewrite the Rules
You don’t have to follow a script someone else wrote.
You don’t have to perform your way to peace.
You get to define success, fun, connection—and even what a holiday “should” look like—on your terms.
And when you do?
You free yourself from the pressure to prove.
You return to the moment.
You reclaim your joy.
